Thrift Butik: UK Clearance Stock, Pallets & It's Own Online Auction Platform

Thrift Butik is a family-run customer-returns, clearance and surplus-stock business based near Doncaster. After starting in a shed in 2023, it now operates from a larger warehouse, supplies individual products and wholesale quantities—including full pallets—and is testing its own online auction platform.

How did Thrift Butik start?

Thrift Butik started simply in December 2023, with a small amount of stock, a shed and an idea: to build a business around giving returned, clearance and surplus products another opportunity to find a home.

Like many reseller businesses, it started small. The family sold primarily through eBay on a part-time basis, learning as they went, reinvesting in more stock and gradually building a customer base.

What began as a small side operation quickly became something much bigger than originally expected.

By May and June 2025, Thrift Butik had expanded from one shed to five, with the fifth filling within a week.

In August 2025, Thrift Butik Ltd was incorporated and the business became a full-time operation. The following month, the family moved into its first commercial warehouse.

Even that space did not last very long.

By December, the unit was already struggling to contain the amount of stock coming in. In March 2026, Thrift Butik moved again, this time into a considerably larger warehouse at Sandtoft Industrial Estate near Doncaster.

The move allowed the business to handle more stock, expand its wholesale side and begin experimenting with completely different ways of selling.

How did Thrift Butik move into live selling?

One of the biggest changes for Thrift Butik has been live selling.

The business first began selling through Whatnot, using live shows as another way to sell its customer-return and clearance stock and connect directly with buyers.

When eBay later offered Thrift Butik the opportunity to sell through eBay Live, the team accepted.

During the summer holidays, the business noticed a reduction in overall live viewership, while its eBay Live shows were performing more strongly than its Whatnot streams. For the time being, Thrift Butik therefore decided to focus its live-selling activity on eBay Live.

That does not mean Whatnot has been left behind.

The team plans to return to Whatnot as its live-selling operation develops further, with the longer-term aim of selling across multiple platforms rather than relying on just one.

Live selling has taught the team a great deal about what customers enjoy: the unpredictability, the opportunity to find something unusual and, of course, the possibility of securing a fantastic bargain.

That experience led the team to ask a bigger question:

Why couldn’t Thrift Butik build an auction platform of its own?

That idea has now become a real project.

How does the Thrift Butik auction platform work?

On 26 August 2026, Thrift Butik began the real-world testing phase of its own online auction platform, allowing customers and resellers to bid directly through the company’s website.

During the testing phase, many auctions are starting from just £1, using genuine stock from the loads arriving at the Thrift Butik warehouse.

The range is intentionally broad and may include customer returns, clearance products, surplus stock and general merchandise—exactly the types of stock on which the business has been built.

The platform is still being refined ahead of its official launch, with the immediate focus on making sure it works reliably before bringing significantly more traffic onto it.

For Thrift Butik, the auction platform is about much more than simply creating another sales channel.

The long-term ambition is to become a useful sourcing destination for resellers at different stages of their businesses.

One person might want to spend a few pounds bidding on individual products. Another reseller may need larger wholesale quantities, while an established trader might be looking for full pallets.

Thrift Butik wants to be able to serve all of them.

Can resellers buy wholesale stock and pallets from Thrift Butik?

Thrift Butik handles customer returns, clearance stock, surplus products and general merchandise in different quantities.

The developing auction platform gives resellers an opportunity to bid on individual products, while those looking for more stock can explore larger quantities and full pallets through the company’s wholesale operation.

This gives Thrift Butik the potential to serve both newer resellers starting with a smaller budget and more established traders looking for stock in volume.

What are Thrift Butik’s plans for live selling?

Thrift Butik also has bigger plans for its live-selling operation.

The business intends to build two purpose-made live-selling studios, giving the team the capacity to run several shows each day.

The current ambition is to work towards around three live shows a day, seven days a week, across multiple platforms rather than focusing solely on eBay Live.

That includes a planned return to Whatnot, alongside the possibility of expanding onto other platforms in future.

There is even the longer-term possibility of live shows being streamed directly through the Thrift Butik website.

Exactly how far that develops will depend on demand and resources, but live selling remains a significant part of the company’s plans.

Does Thrift Butik sell packaging supplies?

Thrift Butik has also recently started expanding into packaging supplies.

The company now stocks products including 100-metre rolls of bubble wrap, packing tape and grey mailing bags, with more lines planned.

Resellers already visit the warehouse to purchase stock, so it made sense to give them the option to collect some of the packaging materials they need at the same time.

The idea Thrift Butik is gradually building towards is simple:

Stock, auctions and reseller supplies—all from one place.

What is next for Thrift Butik?

Thrift Butik remains a small, family-run business, and there is still an enormous amount the team wants to improve and develop.

Much of what it has built so far has come from trying something, listening to customers, discovering what works and then improving it.

The business today looks very different from the one that started in a shed in 2023, and the team expects it to look very different again in the years ahead.

For now, its focus is on successfully testing and launching the auction platform, bringing in more stock, continuing to develop live selling across platforms such as eBay Live and Whatnot, and building Thrift Butik into a business that both bargain hunters and professional resellers can genuinely find useful.
